Shockingly, this isn't from The Onion.

It all started a few months back during a safety demonstration by the police chief back in March. One of the faculty members asked what they could do to protect themselves and their students in the event of an active shooter. The police chief said to throw something - anything - as a distraction.

Even a hockey puck.

Fast forward to December, and the union has purchased 2,500 hockey pucks at 94 cents a piece to distribute. 800 will go to faculty members, 1,700 to students.

Experts say that fleeing should be your first reaction in the event of an active shooter, and fighting back or throwing stuff should be your last option.
