Many area squads will head into the final week of the Michigan High School Athletic Association's football season with non-conference contests. For a majority of them, this week will end their 2017 campaigns.

All five city teams are in action tonight with only one 11-man squad heading to the postseason in Harper Creek. There are also four other area teams that are guaranteed a ticket to the postseason - Climax-Scotts, Homer, Olivet and Union City.

Among the three teams participating in 8-man, all of them have almost locked in their spots for the now-two divisions in the postseason. Tonight, we'll see St. Philip travel to Bellevue for their regular season finale and our Game of the Night.

Along with Homer and Olivet, two other area squads in Quincy and Bronson, all were in action Thursday night as part of the Big 8 and Cascades conferences crossover games in Week 9. Only the champion squads in the two conferences face each other on Friday. This year, it is Reading and Michigan Center.

Finally, Athens needs to win to secure their first postseason spot since 2000.
