Why Cal Ripken Jr Was In Kalamazoo Michigan
Cal Ripken Jr is arguably one of the best and most famous baseball players to ever live. He's known for so many crushing homeruns, spectacular plays in the field, smiles in the dugout, and more importantly his personality and willingness to help and serve the community. He has once again made his way to the headlines, but this time in a more lowkey and refined role as he stands alongside a Kalamazoo great.
Derek Jeter has been making waves within the Kalamazoo community since he was a young kid as many knew he would go on to be something special. He became known as "the captain" for the Yankees and has since come back home to be the Captain of the Turn 2 foundation and more in the area. He has now given back to his Alma Mater, the Kalamazoo Central Giants in a big way, with the help of Cal Ripken Jr.
Earlier this week Kalamazoo Central (KC) and Kalamazoo Public Schools (KPS) made a huge announcement, held a press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony for their newest addition on campus. The announcement was that in addition to the help of Derek Jeter and the Turn 2 Foundation, KPS and KC would also be receiving help from none other than Cal Ripken Jr and the Cal Ripken Sr Foundation.
Both Hall of Fame baseball players and their respective foundations have come together to help break ground, fund, and support the building of new turf baseball and softball fields, along with a shared practice diamond and batting cages. This was a long-awaited project as it had been YEARS since the programs received any kind of upgrades to their facilities.
So, get used to seeing Cal Ripken Jr and Derek Jeter moving around the Kalamazoo area together as they have just started their work here. This is one of many initiatives they are looking to complete and give back to the community and young people of Kalamazoo.
