Michigan Military: Here’s The Number of Active Duty Troops
Once upon a time, going into the army was something that was decided by the draft, although we still have to register for the draft, that's no longer the main source for new recruits. Joining the military is now a choice that people get to make for themselves as they can choose to attend a service academy for college, join an ROTC program at a high school or college to start the process, or simply enlist for one of the forces and go to boot camp. This has led to the United States having the 7th largest military in the world with just over 2 million troops.
In some countries, military conscription and serving as a member of the military are mandatory for all men once they turn 18, luckily for us here in America, we don't have those same restrictions in place. Now, I'm not someone that would choose to go into war as I don't think I can handle that, but I do have an immense sense of gratitude and respect for those that have pledged their lives to keep the United States of America Safe. Troops come from all over the country but the ones that come from the Mitten state mean a little bit more because they're our friends, family, coworkers, loved ones, etc.
As mentioned earlier, the US military has over 2 million troops and about half of them are stationed here within the country. There are military bases all over the country in all 50 states which means there are active troops in every state that belongs in America, but not all states are created the same as some have more than one base, larger bases, or more troops.
Michigan is on the lower end in the rankings for states that have the most military bases which in turn also means the Mitten state falls amongst the states with the least number of active troops stationed within its borders. States like Texas, California, and Virginia lead the country with over 100,000 active soldiers due to large military bases. Michigan finds themself far below these states, can you guess how many active-duty troops are stationed in Michigan?
Michigan actually falls within the bottom ten as they have the 8th least stationed active-duty troops in the entire country. Michigan has 1,810 active duty troops stationed within the Great Lakes State, which means the Mitten has more troops than the following states:
- Oregon
- New Hampshire
- Wisconsin
- Indiana
- Maine
- Minnesota
- Iowa
- West Virginia
- Vermont
