As someone who is JUST getting into Star Trek, I can vouch and say Voyager is a super fun series and may end up being one of my favorites. One of the strongest characters in the show is a woman who won't be born until more than 300 years from now.

The real woman behind the character Captain Kathryn Janeway, Kate Mulgrew has continued to celebrate her much-loved character, even voicing a hologram version of the character in the new animated Star Trek series Prodigy. But did you know she has her own bronze statue in the city where the character will be born, in Bloomington, Indiana?

According to their website, this dedication came simply out of their love for the character:

The Captain Janeway Statue was created by the Captain Janeway Bloomington Collective, formed in early 2019 with the goal of seeing the City of Bloomington, IN honor Kate Mulgrew’s character from Star Trek: Voyager, who will be born there on May 20, 2336. Thanks to fans and donors, the monument became a reality in the form of a bronze sculpture atop a limestone base, plated in steel, with an accompanying display table was designed to serve as a monument to Captain Janeway.

The main reason they state for their honoring of the character is simply because of the values that she stood for, which for the time, were starting to become more prominent in shows:

Captain Janeway showed humanity, integrity, and determination in the face of repeated challenges to her principles. Kate Mulgrew’s portrayal of Janeway as a scientist, and her role as one of the first female lead characters in a sci-fi series has inspired girls and women in STEM fields for years.

If you want to visit the statue, you can find it at 308 W 4th St, Bloomington, IN 47404.
