Cereal City Faces A Big Change With Kellogg’s Potential Sale
When you think of the city of Battle Creek, Michigan, one of the first things that comes to mind is its rich history in cereal making, which is why it’s always been known as Cereal City, USA.
But for the first time in nearly 120 years it looks as though Battle Creek will no longer be truly synonymous with cereal making, as news has recently broke out that as soon as next week, W.K. Kellogg could reportedly be selling their 119 year-old cereal company in a $3 billion deal to The Ferraro Group.

That’s the company that owns brands like Nutella, Butterfinger, Keebler, Tic Tac, and the chocolate company Ferrero Rocher. Now, obviously, we can’t forget about Post, which was founded in 1895 in Battle Creek and still operates in the city.

Even if the W.K. Kellogg company sells to the Ferrero group, there’s no indication that the business won’t continue to operate out of Battle Creek, only that it won't be locally owned.
The Ferrero group was founded in Italy, which is a stone’s throw from Battle Creek, Michigan. Reports are coming in that shares for W.K. Kellogg soared more than 50% after the report that the deal to buy the company came out.
It’s wild to think about growing up with brands like Frosted Flakes, Frosted Mini Wheats, Rice Krispies, Pops, Raisin Bran, Cocoa Krispies, Apple Jacks, and Froot Loops, no longer having its roots planted in Battle Creek, Michigan.
What this will mean for the local economy or how it will affect the area is unknown, but it’s just kind of sad overall.
