It's that time of year, and we're already seeing it on social media - Parents posting their "back to school" photos of their children. Dressed up for their first day back, usually with some kind of identifier of which grade they'll be going into, and sometimes even the school they're attending.

As wholesome, and harmless as it seems, and as much as I'm sure grandma would love to see those photos pop up in her feed... it might be better to just send those to her directly, at least according to authorities, who say posting those pictures online might be dangerous.

The Michigan State Police issued a warning earlier in the week, that, while they love seeing the back to school crowd on their timelines, it can be potentially harmful, and dangerous for some individuals.

In a post to their official twitter account, the State police said the following:

"#TuesdayTip: As children head back to school, it's tempting to share those first-day photos with the world. Before you hit "post," remember to protect your child's privacy. Avoid sharing any personal information, such as Names, School names or locations, Grade levels or ages, and Teacher Names."

MSP districts across the state were sharing similar messages as school systems begin to ramp up for the season, and it's good advice.

I can't tell you how many times I"ve seen friends of mine post about their kids, and include a LOT of seemingly innocent information about them... but if the wrong people happen to see that information, your child could actually be in danger.

BUT, you can still be safe about it. Posting something simple, like your kids dressed up with their backpacks, and just a "Back to School" tag is perfectly fine. And, grandma still gets to see her precious grandkids pop up in her feed.
