West Michigan’s Pickle-Themed Restaurant is a Big ‘Dill’
I don't know if you know this, but pickles are really popular. Pickle-flavored everything exists in one form or another, and it's nearly impossible to ignore seeing it somewhere on an aisle at the grocery store. Heck, even restaurants are starting to serve pickle drinks, cocktails, and shots on their regular menus.
So, it was only a matter of time before a full-fledged pickle restaurant was opened somewhere, and that happens to be in west Michigan, in Grand Haven.
"If you ever find yourself in a pickle, eat your way out! - Papa Zeke"
The Toasted Pickle is just off the intersection of Washington Avenue, and Rockford Squire's Street Square in Grand Haven, and does not skimp on the theme. The sandwich shop puts pickles on everything, and in everything. Even the air in the building smells like pickles.
But of course, it's the food that shines in this place. Ever had a BLTP? A Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, and Pickle sandwich? How about Dill PIckle-seasoned fries? How about lathering pickle Aoli on your sandwich, too, and as if that's not enough, a pickle on the side?
They even have fried pickles, AND Pickle Poppers - dill pickle spears, wrapped in pimento cheese and then the familiar egg roll dough, and deep fried.
So how did the Toasted Pickle come about? Well, it seems it has a bit of a history.
"In the early days of the industrial revolution, a secret society of sandwich artisans existed. It was known as the Order of the Toasted Pickle. This was a group of ambitious and daring rebels who pushed their craft, developing distinct twists on classic sandwich recipes. Tragically, with the advent of the microwave, their recipes were lost in a whirlwind of processed pandemonium.
"But now, after all these years, our dedicated culinary craftsmen have unearthed their eclectic mix of edible oddities and savory classics for everyone to enjoy"
Now, don't worry, if the family still insists on going, and pickles aren't your thing, they have some non-pickle items on the menu, but I think you'll be sorry if you don't at least try one of their simple pickle spears.
The Toasted Pickle also has a location in Rockford as well, and if you're headed their way, take a look at the menu before you go, just to get an idea as to what you want ahead of time. No doubt they're busy... they're kind of a big... dill.
