Things to Do in Michigan This Weekend: Comic Con, Bourbon & More
There's no excuse to sit at home bored this weekend. There's plenty of fun stuff to do within a couple hours' drive of Lansing, and we put together this handy-dandy list to give you some ideas.
Lansing Bourbon Fest
A good bourbon is delicious, and more than 100 of them will be available for tasting at the Lansing Bourbon Fest this Friday (10/14) from 6pm to 10pm indoors at Jackson Field. If you'd prefer beer or wine, there'll be a selection of those available as well as some non-alcoholic choices. Don't get the wrong idea - the Lansing Bourbon Fest will also feature food trucks, live music, and a variety of vendors as well.
Eastown Howl-Oween Pawty
This one's for the dogs! Wilcox Park in Grand Rapids will host the free Eastown Howl-Oween Pawty from noon to 4pm on Saturday (10/15). Bring your pups and take part in the pet costume contest or maybe the dog photo booth. You might even win a gift basket or other cool prizes! (There'll be a beer tent too, you know, for thirsty dog moms and dads.)
Wicked Plants Vendor Faire & Halloween Party
Did you ever dissect an owl pellet in biology class? Chances are you didn't do something this cool with what you found. The Wicked Plants Vendor Faire & Halloween Party is planned for Saturday (10/15). Dissect an owl pellet and make a curiosity jar out of the bones you collect, along with dried flowers and other interesting items. The Vendor Faire runs from 10am to 5pm, with the Halloween Party to follow from 6pm to 11pm. It's at The Flower Market in Monroe.
Cultural Heritage Festival
Grand Rapids Public Museum hosts its annual Cultural Heritage Festival this Saturday (10/15) from 10am to 4pm. Art, music, food and more will be featured, from dozens of cultural groups throughout West Michigan including participants from 5 continents.
The Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners hosts its annual DeutscheMarques Oktoberfest on Saturday (10/15) from 9am to 4pm. The event promises "German food, German beer and the ever popular DeutscheMarques Oom-Pah band. And – of course – your beautiful German cars."
Motor City Comic Con
Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi hosts the Motor City Comic Con Friday through Sunday (10/14 through 10/16). Highlights include a screening of the original Hocus Pocus and commentary with stars Vinnessa Shaw, Omri Katz, and Jason Marsden; and a special Doctor Who reunion with stars Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Alex Kingston. Will there be cosplay contests? Of course! Panels and Q&As, autographs and photo ops galore.
From now through the end of October, downtown Marshall is transformed into a Halloween selfie zone! Skeletonfest features dozens of life-size themed skeletons throughout town, perfect for picture-taking.
