After responding to a call for shots fired, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers arrested a suspect with a stolen gun and methamphetamine following the successful tracking by K-9 Axl.

On Monday, at approximately 03:53 a.m., for the second consecutive day, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 200 block of Pierce Avenue for a report of shots fired. A citizen observed a white SUV leaving the area after the shots were fired.

Kalamazoo Public Safety officers located the vehicle in the area and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle. The vehicle fled, and a KDPS officer was able to deploy spikes to safely deflate the tires. Two occupants fled the vehicle on foot near the intersection of Sprinkle and Kilgore Roads.

Kalamazoo Public Safety K-9 Axl responded. Axl conducted a track of both the suspects. One suspect was located hiding in the woods near the intersection. The other suspect was not located. A stolen loaded handgun and methamphetamine was found in the suspect vehicle.

As a result of this investigation a 40-year-old Kalamazoo resident was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and resisting and obstructing.
