A group of kayakers had to be rescued from the Kalamazoo River in Emmett Township over the weekend.

WWMT reports that shortly after 9pm Saturday, first responders got a call from a man who said that kayaks holding him, another adult male, and two children tipped over into the water, and that he couldn’t see the others. Using the GPS data from the man’s phone, along with the lights and siren from an emergency vehicle, rescuers were able to locate the individuals who fell in, clinging to tree branches, and pull them out.

It’s estimated that the kayakers drifted about half a mile from where they capsized.

No injuries were reported in this incident.
