The Kellogg Community College Bruins returned to the diamond fresh off a Michigan Community College Athlete Association title and began their quest for a second-straight regional title in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

On Wednesday in their Region 12 opener, the second-seeded Bruins pulled ahead with two runs in the fifth inning for a 3-1 victory over the Muskegon Community College Jayhawks at Bailey Park. Sophomore infielder Garrett Soule (Dansville) went 3-for-4 and drove in a run, while Travis Bolen (Watervliet) and Joel Ledford (Benzie Central) each knocked in a run.

The Bruins were dealing on the mound, allowing only two hits on the afternoon. Sophomore Tyler Bradner (Howell) stuck out 11 in seven innings to pick up the win. Joe Wolf (Sterling Heights Stevenson) pitched two scoreless to earn the save.

Kellogg returns to action at 11:30am today at Nichols Field to take on the third-seeded Macomb Community College Monarchs. A win keeps them in the winner's bracket and gives them the rest of Thursday off. A loss will force the Bruins to play at 3:30pm at Nichols against the Mott Community College Bears to stay alive.
