Stolen Gun Recovered In Kalamazoo Traffic Stop
A joint operation between the Michigan Department of Corrections and the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety turned up a stolen handgun and led to an arrest Monday night.
The KDPS says they were working with the MDOC’s Absconder Recovery Unit, to track down someone with an outstanding warrant. During the course of this investigation, a traffic stop was carried out in the 300 block of W. Patterson in Kalamazoo, around 8:30pm Monday. The passenger of the vehicle tried to run away when police pulled them over, but officers were able to track them down and arrest them after a struggle.
That struggle caused the suspect to allegedly drop a loaded revolver, which was found to have been reported stolen last year. The 37-year-old suspect is set to face multiple charges, including resisting and obstructing, possession of marijuana, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon.
The KDPS asks anyone who has information about this case to contact them, either directly or by calling Silent Observer.
