When the next Talons Out Honor Flight takes off from Kalamazoo International Airport, on November 2nd, several Detroit Lions legends will be joining the experience as guardians for the heroes being honored.

Lions Legends including Lomas Brown, Doug English and Herman Moore will travel as guardians for some of the Southwest Michigan heroes on Mission 18.

Approximately 75 veterans from WWII, Korea and the Vietnam Era will be honored on this flight, most of which have already been confirmed. Representatives from Talons Out and the Detroit Lions organization work together to create an extra special flight for our veterans. Veterans were selected for this flight using our standing process of first apply, first fly with priority given to WWII and Korean War veterans. -Talons Outs release

The former Lions players will be traveling to Washington D.C. to support the Veterans as they visit the memorials built in their honor. The one-day trip culminates with a homecoming celebration, this time at the Air Zoo in Kalamazoo. Talons Out says the public is invited to join the homecoming festivities. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Veterans are expected to arrive at 9:30 pm. They do note the homecoming is a free event but donations are welcome for the upcoming spring 2020 Honor Flight.

For those wondering, Talons Out Honor Flight is a "volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization honoring World War II and Korean War Veterans with an all-expense paid Washington, D.C. trip to visit their memorials. Talons Out is the Southern Michigan hub of the national Honor Flight Network." Earlier this year, they announced they will begin accepted applications for Viet Nam era veterans, in addition to World War II and Korean War veterans.
