Dr. Brian Long, director of supply chain management research at the Institute for Supply Management at Grand Valley State University, issued a new economic report on west Michigan's economy a few weeks ago. Largely, the news is good.

Boil it down, and it amounts to a "when will the shoe drop?" attitude about the economy. west Michigan, from Dr. Long's perspective on manufacturing, is humming along. Sometimes west Michigan looks better than the national economic picture. But, the concern is it can't last forever - and when will it slow down?

Long also discussed the west Michigan employment picture, including a notion he discussed before - full employment - and what ripple effects that has.
