Officials say that despite the growing concern over the recent cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis in Michigan, the Luke Bryan show this Friday night at Stafford Farms in Richland will still take place. According to a report from WWMT in Kalamazoo, officials say that the venue site will be sprayed for mosquitoes prior to the event.

Last week, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services asked residents in several counties that had reported cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis to "consider postponing, rescheduling or cancelling outdoor activities occurring at or after dusk." Richland, where the concert will take place, is located in Kalamazoo County, which is one of the counties that has had a reported case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis.

Doors will open at 5 pm this Friday for the sold out Luke Bryan show. The show is scheduled to start at 6 pm. If you're headed to the show, here are some tips from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to avoid mosquito bites:

  • Apply insect repellents that contain the active ingredient DEET, or other U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-registered product to exposed skin or clothing, and always follow the manufacturer’s directions for use.
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when outdoors. Apply insect repellent to clothing to help prevent bites.
  • Maintain window and door screening to help keep mosquitoes outside.
  • Empty water from mosquito breeding sites around the home, such as buckets, unused kiddie pools, old tires or similar sites where mosquitoes may lay eggs.
  • Use nets and/or fans over outdoor eating areas.
