Despite a whole new way of doing things and a stormy weekend, the 2018 Mackinac Bridge Walk was a big success.

For the 61st annual Mackinac Bridge walk, they did everything differently. Labor Day 2018 saw the Mighty Mac closed to vehicular traffic for the annual trek across the Straits. Walkers begun from St. Ignace and Mackinaw City simultaneously with the option of turning around midway or completing the 5 mile trip and arranging for their own transportation back.

Michigan Department of Transportation social media was replete with smiling faces of Michiganders and others with annual crowds numbering 40,000-65,000. No major incidents were reported and walkers seemed OK with the idea of parking the school bus shuttles used in years past and changing direction at the center span or ferrying back to the peninsula they came from.
