Anyone can sue anyone in America.

A major Michigan drug dealer is suing the Kent County Police and a deputy sheriff for shooting him during a drug raid, according to reporting from Mlive.

This drug dealer is now serving a 20 year sentence in federal prison.  He is in prison for his role in a major West Michigan drug operation which brought to the streets of West Michigan approximately 5 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 grams of heroin every 2 to 3 weeks.

The drug dealer was shot in a Grand Rapids apartment parking lot during the raid while a member of the sheriff’s Tactical Apprehension and Confrontation Team was helping federal agents execute a series of search warrants.

The sheriff believed the man was reaching for a gun in his waistband when the officer saw the man reach toward his waistband so he fired at him.  The officer stated:

I believed he posed an immediate threat

It was later determined that the man was not armed when he was shot.

The Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker determined last year that the officer was cleared of any criminal responsibility but should not have shot the man, he stated:

There is no evidence presented here that would support any conclusion other than Deputy Hinds fired because he feared for his safety…It was incorrect, but that does not change the analysis

At the time of the shooting the officer was placed on paid administrative leave but was returned to regular duty without being disciplined after he was cleared of criminal wrongdoing by the prosecutor.

I think it is interesting and funny that this convicted drug dealer thinks he can make money from the taxpayers of Kent County for being shot while working at his trade of a drug dealer.

Hopefully this case will not see the light of day in a West Michigan or any courtroom.  Unfortunately knowing how our courts and society thinks and acts today there is probably a chance that it will and he could win.

If he wins can everyone who he sold drugs to that OD'ed sue him?
