A Battle Creek man is in jail after he allegedly held his girlfriend hostage and violently assaulted her.

The incident happened early Tuesday morning, at a home on Parish St; the 44-year-old victim had called police after escaping to a neighbor’s house for help. The woman said that the man assaulted her to the point of unconsciousness and held her for a length of time, with WWMT reporting that her feet and hands had been bound by plastic bags.

The 47-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, assault by strangulation and false imprisonment. The home where the alleged incident took place has been searched by police, and more charges may be coming.

Arraignment is expected to take place Wednesday.
