A man had to be rescued Saturday evening in a wetlands area of Portage.

MLive reports that the man called 911 around 3:30pm Saturday, and said he had become stuck in waist-deep mud near Sugarloaf Lake. The Portage Public Safety began to search, but were initially unable to find the man because he couldn’t give a more detailed location before his cell phone died.

After several hours, the man was tracked down using cellphone coordinates to the west side of the lake, pulled out of the mud, and taken to the hospital to be treated.
