Michigan Department of Transportation Southwest Region spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells The Richard Piet Show on WBCK median cable guardrails along I-94 in Kalamazoo County undoubtedly kept cars from crossing the median into oncoming traffic during Friday's massive crash. Schirripa said that very likely means further injury or death was avoided with help from the barriers.

In a video news release, MDOT cites specific testimonial cases from motorists involved in other incidents who claim the barriers saved their lives.

Raw video footage taken while the crash was happening shows some of the cars spinning out and crashing along the cable barrier. The video was shared numerous times on social media in the hours and days following the crash, which police say involved nearly 200 vehicles.
