Meijer just announced they are doing away with their plus-size departments in their stores.

Starting early 2017, in all 230 stores, Meijer will integrate plus sizes with the straight sizes in their women’s and misses section.

By putting all sizes together, they'll give everyone the opportunity to have the latest fashion trends.

“Over the past few years, we’ve placed an increased focus on bringing more on-trend, affordable apparel to our customers,” said Peter Whitsett, executive vice president of merchandising and marketing. “This fresh approach to shopping represents a continuation of that commitment, giving our customers the trends they’re looking for, regardless of what size they wear.”

This is awesome since most of the time the plus-size clothing is a different from the rest, and usually not as trendy.  They’re also taking another step for equal shopping by taking out the price difference for the plus size clothes.  No matter the size, the price will be equal.

“Plus-size apparel is often priced higher than missy or women’s sizes,” said Annette Repasch, group vice president of softlines for Meijer. “We believe all our customers deserve to pay the same price for the same trends, regardless of size.”

They’ve already started doing this in 15 of their stores and customers noticed and definitely approved.

“I think that’s so amazing, the way Meijer is incorporating plus and the smaller sizes together,” said JoElla Saines, a Meijer customer from Normal, Ill. “Now everyone can shop together, not separate.”

Also by combining the different sections, they'll have more room so they’ll be able to expand their clothing section by adding more styles and trends to each store.

Kudos Meijer!
