I find this very interesting and confusing at the same time.  The Michigan Democratic Party has just released their new plan to choose 147 delegates who will represent the state at the 2020 Democratic National Convention; that is not the interesting part.

The interesting part is the identity politics game they are playing within their own party.  MLive is reporting that the state party has informed the public that they have created an affirmative action committee, this committee will attempt to include more members of “minority groups” in nominating the next Democratic presidential candidate.  They feel that their parties’ base of “minorities” are underrepresented in their organization.

This new committee is looking to recruit more African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, Arab Americans, members of the LGBT community, people with disabilities, young people and women.  Did they miss anyone, yes I believe bald people or whom I choose to call "follicularly challenged” of which I am one.  Wait there is nothing about short men in their list and short men are definitely looked down upon in this country by other men and women.

Michigan Democratic Party Chair Lavora Barnes was quoted in the article stating:

It is critical when we choose our party’s presidential nominee that every voice in our Michigan Democratic Party is heard…We may not all agree on who should get the nomination, but the delegate selection plan we have put forward ensures that we will all have a say.

FYI: Michigan’s Democratic presidential primary is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, 2020 and then the delegates will choose their presidential candidate next July in Milwaukee. Also per their rules the Michigan delegates will be distributed proportionally, based on a candidate’s share of the vote and candidates must receive 15% of the vote to receive even a single delegate.

Now here is the confusing part.  Did you catch what I just wrote?  That is Democratic delegate votes will be based on a candidate’s share of the vote in their primary.

Well if delegates must give their vote based on the Democratic Primary voters vote then what does any identity politic/minority group have to do with it.  If their delegate’s votes are simply a show vote with absolutely no meaning then what does it matter what color, race, age, who you like to sleep with, what body parts you hate, the fact that you believe you are a different gender then biology factual states you are, what disability you have or anything else.

That my friend is the confusing part, or is the party just pandering to their identity politic/minority groups?
