The mushrooms are coming and here's a good way to find out where they are throughout the state. Last week, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources released their latest interactive map for hunting morel mushrooms in Michigan. According to information posted with their interactive morel mushroom map, the Michigan DNR says that the popular morel mushrooms are often found where large fires occurred the previous year. They also add that morel mushrooms are more likely to grown in burned areas "where jack, white or red pine once grew."

If you take a look at their interactive map, at this point there aren't really a lot of great hunting options close to the Lansing area. If you're up for a road trip, you may want to head up-north or over to the thumb area. Click here to check out the map and good luck!
