Michigan Father Goes To Jail For Sons Overdose

A Father is paying for the loss of his son

Cole Birkhead died in 2017 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo due to a drug overdose. It was in November of 2019 that his Father plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

It was on Monday (12/9) that Gary Birkhead was sentenced to one year in jail for his 16-year-old son’s death. It is being reported by the Detroit News that the father knew that his son had been involved in the use of illicit drugs over two years. Gary Birkhead, took the plea for involuntary manslaughter in lieu of charges of child abuse.

The 49  year old father from Bangor has been in the Van Buren County jail for months and will have roughly 100 days left on the sentence.
