Oh! What a Tangled Web We Weave/When First We Practice to Deceive!

The House Ethics Committee yesterday released a slew of very interesting internal campaign communications sent in 2018 by Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib, in which Tlaib is frantically requesting money from her congressional campaign to pay for her personal expenses.  A government watchdog said those request and payments possibly violated federal law. “Possibly” violated federal law, how can it not violate federal law when someone is taking campaign donations and using them for personal expenses up and above the salary they are paying themselves from campaign money.

I found this information from Fox News, I searched for Rashida Tlaib, House Ethics Committee and each of the main stream manipulative news sites and found no coverage of this.  Do you find that interesting or telling, certainly protective and withholding important information from their readers and viewers.

The House Ethics Committee, run by Democrats, released texts and emails which demonstrate Tlaib frantically contacting members of her staff begging for financial help.

In one of the emails Tlaib wrote to her campaign staff in April of 2018 she said was  "struggling financially right now" and was "sinking." She went on to say:

So I was thinking the campaign could loan me money, but Ryan said that the committee could actually pay me. I was thinking a one time payment of $5k.

Again in April 4, 2018, she writes:

I am just not going to make it through the campaign without a stipend…With the loss of a second income to lean back on…I am requesting $2,000 per two weeks but not exceeding $12,000. The cost of living stipend is going towards much needed expenses due to campaigning that includes car maintenance, child care and other necessities. Please let me know if I can proceed.

It continues in August of 2018 with a text to her chief of staff Ryan Anderson at 6:38 in the morning stating:

Sorry for the early text but do you think the campaign can still pay me a stipend until the general. Trying to get out of debt.

Tlaib’s chief of staff Ryan Anderson responds with:

I think we definitely afford to do so. But we need to really clearly define your time and space

He then noted that what they are doing could arouse "concern" among the media.  He meant the really media not the Main Stream Manipulative News silly.

Talib's lawyers’ response to all of this evidence was classic and typical when they said that there is no evidence that she violated the law on purpose, and she really had bad intentions.  Oh OK, everyone go home now nothing to see here.

Really she and no one running her campaign had no idea what she was doing was illegal.  Is she and her staff that dumb and if so we should be all concerned that she is in Congress.  Oh also she had no bad intentions, could you imagine telling a judge; when I embezzled from my company I had no idea it was illegal and if it was I certainly had no bad intentions I was paying my personal expenses.

I thought ignorance of the law is no excuse.

The Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) stated if Tlaib:

converted campaign funds from Rashida Tlaib for Congress to personal use, or if Tlaib’s campaign committee expended funds that were not attributable to bona fide campaign or political purposes, then Tlaib may have violated House rules, standards of conduct, and federal law

The OCE went on to say:

The Board recommends that the Committee further review the above allegation concerning Rep. Tlaib because there is substantial reason to believe that Rep. Tlaib converted campaign funds from Rashida Tlaib for Congress to personal use or Rep. Tlaib’s campaign committee expended funds that were not attributable to bona fide campaign or political purposes

If found to be in violation what will happen to her, my thought; absolutely nothing other than a slap on the wrist.  If you and I were to steal from our employer we would be charged with a crime, fired from our job and possibly locked up.

Where is the fairness in this system when the elite can commit crimes and not pay the piper?
