We keep hearing that we do and have not spent enough tax dollars on Michigan’s infrastructure.  Is that true or not; that is up to you to decide.  One thing we can agree on is the amount of money spent on our roads and bridges each year has been increasing every year.

The Michigan Capitol Confidential news site is reporting  that annual spending on Michigan infrastructure will reach a record high for the 2018-2019 fiscal year at $3,640,000,000 and is projected to reach almost $4,000,000,000 by 2021 and that is without Governor Whitmer’s request for an increase of 171% on our per gallon state gas tax.

Back in 2011 we spent approximately $2,250,000,000 inflation adjusted dollars on our infrastructure.  We will come close to doubling that in 2021 just 10 years later.  Do we actually have the crews and man/women power to do the work?

Also all these tax dollars we are talking about does not factor in the additional spending that is currently being debated.

One thing you can count on is the Michigan Legislature will increase spending on the roads because everyone says it is needed.  The question is will they increase our taxes to do so, move spending from other programs or do both.

Only time will tell.
