Trooper Christopher Boven has known since he was 13 years old that he was someday going to need a new liver due to a progressive liver disease. What he didn't know is that it would be one of his brothers in blue that would save his life.

After Boven's wife Alex put the word out last year that her husband was in need of a liver, troopers and friends all volunteered to be donors. In a wonderful twist of fate it ended up being 28 year old Trooper David Burr, a trooper Boven had trained, being a perfect match.

The men worked together at the Rockford post and Burr said it was a "no brainer" when deciding to donate half his liver to Boven. "I didn't think twice about it. It's kind of who we are; it's what we do. Everyone talks about saving lives and whatnot and wanting to be there for each other. It was time to do it," said Burr.

The successful transplant took place at Henry Ford hospital in Detroit this past February and both Michigan State Police troopers are back on patrol. When asked about the humble way Burr is responding to helping his friend Boven replies,  “He’s being modest but, honestly, the guy’s a superhero, man. Look at him".
