Michigan To Erase Criminal Records

Yesterday, Gov. Rick Snyder signed a bill into law which will expunge (erase) the records of Michigan citizens criminal records, if they were convicted of a non-violent felony or two misdemeanors.

What is being described as "the second chance bill" would allow a convicted Michigan citizen to apply to the court to get either the felony or the misdemeanors removed from their record five years after they complete their sentence.

According to the Detroit Free Press, "During hearings on the bills, many people spoke out about the difficulty of finding a job with a felony on their record, even if it was a minor, decades old conviction."

Good or bad idea?
