Michigan, Transgender Bathroom School Policy and Honesty
We have discussed the Michigan Board of Education’s transgender policy a number of times on The Live with Renk Show. I have been open and honest about all the recommendations in their February 23, 2016 proposal.
Why can’t all news outlets be up-front and honest about all of the recommendations?
I just read an article published over the weekend in the Detroit Free Press which once again showed their bias. The article spoke about the expected decision to be made by the Michigan Board of Education this August.
They focused on the issue of boys pretending to be girls to get into the girls’ bathroom. Or predators preying on young children.
What they did not mention was what most parents in Michigan are concerned about and that is the recommendation of not informing the parents of their child’s decision to be recognized as the opposite sex or no gender at all.
One of the recommendations laid out in the Michigan Board of Education memo dated 2-23-16 memo is as follows:
Privacy and Confidentiality Regarding Disclosures. Transgender and GNC students have the right to decide when, with whom, and to what extent to share private information. When contacting the parent/guardian of a transgender or GNC student, school staff should use the student’s legal name and the pronoun corresponding to the student’s assigned sex at birth, unless the student or parent/guardian has specified otherwise.
Now I ask you why did the Detroit Free Press not mention and address that recommendation. Why are they appear to be hiding that controversial recommendation from their readers?
Because that recommendation is a problem for them to actually address. That recommendation has merits behind it and in my estimation they are hiding that to push their agenda and do their best to not legitimize parents and others concern about the state not telling the truth to parents about their children.
Ask yourself, would you as a parent want the state to notify you if your child made a life changing decision like that?
Ask yourself why is the main stream media attempting to hide that recommendation under the carpet?
When you answer those questions you might finally realize that one of the biggest issues we have in the United States is the media and their biases.
Let’s talk about this today on The Live with Renk Show which airs Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to noon. To let me know your thoughts during the show please call (269) 441-9595.
