Another crosswalk painting project will cause some traffic issues on Monday in Battle Creek.  The city says a contractor will paint the crosswalks at the intersection of Capital Avenue NE and VanBuren Street East beginning Monday morning.  The crosswalks were also temporarily painted back in July with the support of a different organization.  The walks were returned to the normal scheme a month later.

The contractor will paint all four crosswalks at the intersection. Work is scheduled between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday, weather permitting.

The crosswalk art was approved for, and is funded by, the Michigan Heartbeat Coalition, for the month of October. The crosswalk is scheduled to be returned to its typical paint scheme no later than Oct. 31.

City staff do not anticipate any lane closures during this work, but please they advise motorists to be alert for potenial pedestrian detours. Contractors will not be in the crosswalk during busy times, such as the morning and evening commutes, or lunch hour.

The city says they appreciate everyone’s patience during this work. Find information on the crosswalk art process, including the city right-of-way permit, at the city’s website, http://www.battlecreekmi.gov/407/Zoning-Development.
