Local authorities are investigating a new flavor of phone scam that attempts to get victims to send the scammer money.

The Battle Creek Police Department, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department and Emmett Township Public Safety are all investigating reports of a scam, in which a person claiming to be from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department calls the victim.

The person, who identifies himself as a Sergeant, tells the victim there is a warrant out for their arrest due to missed jury duty, and that they can get out of the warrant by wiring large sums of money to the caller.

Authorities say that Law enforcement would never operate this way, or ask for money to be wired over the phone.

If you get a call like this, please contact authorities.
