It is being reported that at least 9 people were killed and 7 injured by a gunman today at a southwestern Oregon community college.

The shooting was reported about 10:40 a.m. PST at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg; about 180 miles south of Portland and 70 miles south of Eugene, Oregon.

The school has about 3,300 full- and part-time students. Fall classes began Monday.

So what is going to happen now, the typical knee jerk response by many, including President Obama.

He made a statement in which he stated this issue should be politicized. And he did just that. He has no idea about the who, what or where about the shooting. Yet he still felt the need to make a “politicized” statement about the tragedy.  There were 50 shootings in Chicago over the weekend, why did he not make a statement about that?

He calls for common sense gun laws.  What common sense gun laws is he talking about?  There are already thousands of gun laws on the books and these do not prevent these senseless shootings.  Is one more gun law going to change the course of gun safety?

So let’s have this discussion.  What common sense laws could prevent these psycho killers from committing these acts?

Could this tragedy have been less tragic if this was not a gun free zone?

Could someone possibly have been saved?

Maybe or maybe not.

Let’s discuss this tomorrow (Friday) on my show, The Live with Renk show, which airs Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to noon, to let me know your thoughts at (269) 441-9595.

Or please feel free to start a discussion and write your thoughts in the comment section.
