Pancake Tent Tradition At Calhoun County Fair Helps Mar Lee Kids Trip To D.C.
Mar Lee School social studies teacher Chris Henke might not have imagined teaching social studies involved feeding locals breakfast, lunch and dinner for a week. But it has.
Henke teaches middle schoolers at Mar Lee, and that involves taking them on a trip to Washington, D.C. The tradition has gone on for a number of years, and in order to fund it, students and parents - and Henke - operate the "Pancake Tent" at the Calhoun County Fair.
The "Pancake Tent" - which actually serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at the fair - has become the fundraiser for the trip, which Henke says has involved as many as 50-60 students from the district.
If you visit the food tent at the fair this week, it's Mar Lee students, parents and teachers who will serve you!
