Officials at FireKeepers Casino, the visionaries behind Battle Creek's new Fire Hub hybrid restaurant-food pantry, expect the facility is about 2 1/2 months from completion.

The restaurant, the old Battle Creek Fire Station Number 4 at 175 South Kendall Street, is being transformed now into the vision of FireKeepers vice president and executive chef Michael McFarlen, who told us recently the idea popped in his head after seeing it every day on his way into work.

FireKeepers executives embraced the idea, and have invested heavily in the project, along with building contractor of Holt, Michigan. The food pantry side is a partnership with the Food Bank of South Central Michigan.
