Pets Don’t Make Good Surprise Gifts

As you can see here, pets look adorable all wrapped up as gifts. But, the Humane Society of South Central Michigan is cautioning against giving pets as gifts this holiday season - at least not as surprises.

All year long, HSSCM professionals - and their counterparts all around the country - work to make sure a pet is matched with a new home that works well for all involved. A surprise gift of a pet can work against that, and end up with a pet being returned to a shelter.

In fact, HSSCM says the highest incidence of pet returns to shelters happens as a result of gifts.
