Kalamazoo Police continue to search for the driver of a mini-van that plowed through a family and their dog, while crossing the street in the Edison neighborhood, Tuesday evening. One child remains in the hospital and the heroic dog, Piper, is now at home after missing since the incident.

According to WWMT, Dave Badham says his heroic dog Piper risked her life to save his son, but then took off after the hit-and-run crash. Badham watched Piper shield his son from the impact of the vehicle and the tire running over the dog.

The dog then ran away, terrified. Thursday evening, the original owners of Piper, found the dog sitting on their front-porch, slightly battered but in remarkable condition.

The red-nosed Pit Bull hero is now reunited with her family and is another example of man’s best friend.
