The story spread across the state - and perhaps beyond: Lakeview High School in Battle Creek will ban students' smart phones from the classroom starting this fall.

So what's the big deal?

Principal Jeffrey Bohl tells WBCK he believes the big deal is that school policy has not been quick to respond to issues of technology, probably because schools have been busy evaluating their options while studying just how distracting smart phones in the classroom may or may not be. But now, they've decided to act - probably at a time when other districts might hesitate.

"We've been talking about it for three years," Bohl said.
