Rainbow Setting At Busy Battle Creek Intersection

The City of Battle Creek issued a press release, late Wednesday, notifying the public that the intersection of Capital Avenue N.E. and VanBuren Street may hamper some pedestrian traffic for up to 12 hours, Thursday, due to the removal of paint from the crosswalks at the intersection. The press release was dated at 5:34 pm., Wednesday afternoon.

The paint was first applied on July 8^th, by Ace Parking Lot Striping of Plainwell. It was a 12-hour project that applied a rainbow pattern to the crosswalks in acknowledgment of the upcoming Pride Festival that was to run between July 18^th and the 21^st.  According to a press release from the City, the crosswalks would serve as visual symbols of both the city’s inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community and their impact on the city community at large.

The latest release, concerning the removal project, states that “During this work, while we don’t anticipate any lane closures for vehicular traffic, pedestrians may be detoured around the area being painted.  Contractors will not be in the crosswalk during busy times such as the morning and evening commutes or lunch hour.”

The project is slated to begin at 7AM, Thursday morning, and be completed by 7PM, weather permitting.
