Really, President Obama? The Crusades?
At a National Prayer Breakfast today, the AP reported that President Barack Obama condemned those who seek to use religion as a rationale for carrying out violence around the world, declaring that "no god condones terror."
Obama went on today to say, "We are summoned to push back against those who would distort our religion for their nihilistic ends," according to the AP.
If the president would have left it at that, we could have all agreed, but no, he could not have left it at that.
He had to then single out the dreaded Christians when he stated, "Unless we get on our high horse and think that this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ."
So, according to President Obama, what the Islamist extremist are doing today in the modern age is equal to what the Christians did more than 700 years ago.
By the way, the Christian crusades were in response to Muslim madmen in the middle ages. Sound familiar?
The AP reported that Obama went on to say, "So, it is not unique to one group or one religion. There is a tendency in us, a simple tendency that can pervert and distort our faith."
Why do you think the president had to call out Christians?
Was he right to do so?
Is it fair to compare something that happened in the middle ages to today?
