Calhoun County residents will have some very valuable recycling opportunities in May.  Here are some upcoming event announcements:

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Scheduled for May 2

 

BATTLE CREEK

  • Aerosol cans
  • Paint Thinner/Turpentine
  • Oil and Lead based paint
  • Pesticides/Herbicides
  • Automotive products
    • Brake fluid
    • Transmission fluid
    • Antifreeze
  • Small propane cylinders
  • Household batteries
    • Items containing mercury
    • Medications
    • Fire extinguishers
    • Tube and CFL light bulbs
    • Sharps-inside coffee container/laundry detergent bottle with lid

 

To facilitate the collection of your household hazardous materials we ask that you do the following:

 

  • Please separate oil and lead based paint from all other chemicals.  Remember that NO LATEX PAINT will be accepted.  Allow it to dry thoroughly and put it out with your trash.
  • Make sure products are labeled or identifiable so they can be properly loaded for disposal.

 

  • Make sure that products are securely packed so that they will not break during transport.

 

  • Collection is limited to the items listed above and will be held rain or shine.

 

May is a busy recycling month with several other collections occurring on other days.  Please do not bring tires, Styrofoam, electronics, appliances, or items to be recycled to this collection.

Electronics and Styrofoam Collection Announced

 

Now that spring has arrived and everyone is busy with their spring cleaning, Calhoun County and the City of Battle Creek are partnering to offer a free electronics and Styrofoam #6 collection to help residents recycle these items and keep them out of the landfill.  The Calhoun County Public Health Department and City of Battle Creek invite you to our collection on:

This collection is for a specific type of styrofoam called polystyrene.  Polystyrene usually has the number 6 embossed on the material. Polystyrene is typically used in foam cups, plates, egg cartons, and packing material. Foam packing peanuts and construction foam cannot be accepted as they are made out of a different type of foam. All material brought to the collection must be clean. Dirty or soiled material cannot be accepted.
