Shaking Crab Coming Soon To Former Brann’s Steakhouse In Portage

The third seafood focused restaurant to open in the last two years in the Kalamazoo area will be opening soon, as Shaking Crab has put signage up on the building which was the former location of Brann's Steakhouse & Grille in Portage next to Crossroads Mall and across the street from Celebration Cinema. The story behind this restaurant, who's main feature is a seafood broil shaken up with buttery Cajun spices in a bag, started in Boston with two friends:

Shaking Crab began as a lunch craving for fresh New England shellfish and bold Cajun flavors in the spring of 2015.  Kevin and Nick, co-workers in a downtown Boston office, frequently lunched together in a quest to fulfill a mutual love of spicy and fragrant foods. [Opening up a crab boil restaurant] started as a joke, but the craving was real and the pair began experimenting with the sauce, testing different amounts of garlic, types of butter, and of course, the ratio of the Cajun spice mix.

Later that year, they found a small restaurant in Newton, MA that was up for sale, and on December 18th they officially opened their doors. The only other location in Michigan is in Livonia as a virtual restaurant inside Laurel Park Place Mall. The Shaking Boil comes with a choice of Alaskan King Crab (43), Snow Crab (27), Shrimp Head On (15), Easy Peel Shrimp (18), Crawfish (17), or Mussels (12). The seafood gets tossed in a choice of different sauce & spice blends and vegetable add-ons are also available.
