Showtime’s ‘Twin Peaks’ Revival Confirms Kyle MacLachlan’s Return
Showtime shocked us all with the announcement that ‘Twin Peaks’ would return as a series in 2016 under creator David Lynch, though predictably few details were available just yet. Now, the most burning question about the darkly surreal drama’s return has been answered, confirming Kyle MacLachlan’s reprisal of Dale Cooper.
MacLachlan himself confirmed the return at Showtime’s TCA press tour panel, stepping out on stage with network boss David Nevins, cheekily offering “You look like you need a damn fine cup of coffee.” Nevins corroborated that MacLachlan’s Agent Dale Cooper would again lead the cast of Showtime’s ‘Twin Peaks’ revival, with “more cast coming on as we roll through.”
David Lynch and ‘Twin Peaks’ co-creator Mark Frost have begun working on the scripts, with Lynch confirmed to direct all 9 episodes of the revival series. Fans of the series will remember that the season 2 finale in 1991 left MacLachlan’s Agent Cooper in some dire straits, with the new episodes picking up 25 years later to continue the story.
For those unfamiliar, the original ‘Twin Peaks’ saw Agent Dale Cooper arriving in the titular town to investigate the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer, only to find the mystery ran far deeper than he could ever expect, with a touch of the supernatural.
MacLachlan’s return hadn’t exactly been in doubt, especially if Showtime chose to revive ‘Twin Peaks’ at all, but what say you? Are you excited to have Special Agent Dale Cooper (or whatever Killer lies within) back in ‘Twin Peaks?’ How would you like to see the 2016 revival play out?
