Shred Day Brings Many Out To Fight Identity Theft
Folks lined up bright and early Saturday, October 15, 2016 for Shred Day 2016 - a local event meant to encourage folks to do what they can to avoid identity theft. The event also raised enough food and monetary donations for the Food Bank of South Central Michigan to provide 4,622 meals.
The event, held at Omni Community Credit Union on Capital Avenue in Battle Creek, included special trucks from Shred It which house industrial shredding equipment. The trucks are capable of shredding hundreds of pages at once, saving time and virtually eliminating the ability to read sensitive material on them.
Franklin Iron and Metal Company of Battle Creek displayed their newly added electronics recycling capability by accepting old computers and other desktop and office electronics which will be safely and securely recycled. Franklin also assured hard drives with sensitive information were completely destroyed.
Thanks, too, from Townsquare Media to KWings mascot Slappy who helped direct traffic and make people smile, as well as Sweetwater's who provided donut holes, and all the partners who made Shred Day a success!
Hear The Richard Piet Show weekday mornings from 5:30-9 on WBCK.
