September is "Spoontember" in these parts - an effort to raise awareness about the issue of hunger in the community. The Food Bank of South Central Michigan is a local partner in the national "Hunger Action Month" initiative.

Like the Ice Bucket Challenges in recent years, hunger relief organizations hope the spoon-on-the-nose selfies will attract attention - and bring traction - to ongoing donation and volunteer efforts to help the hungry.
