The Lions’ came back to keep Cleveland winless with a 38-24 win on Sunday at Ford Field. Matthew Stafford lofted a 29-yard, tiebreaking touchdown to Eric Ebron early in the fourth quarter for the win. Stafford was 17 of 26 passing for 249 yards and three touchdowns, and one interception.  He was sacked four times.   Golden Tate had six catches for 97 yards and a touchdown. Browns’ quarterback DeShone Kizer was 21 of 37 for 232 yards and one interception and also ran for 57 yards. Detroit heads to Chicago next Sunday.  The Packers beat the Bears and the Vikings beat the Redskins.  Minnesota leads the division at 7-2.  The Lions and Packers are 5-4.

Monday Night Football

The Miami Dolphins visit the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte.

Pistons

The Pistons beat the Miami Heat 112-103 at Little Caesar’s Arena on Sunday.    Tobias Harris scored 25 points and Avery Bradley added 24.  Reggie Jackson scored 17 points, rookie Luke Kennard had 14 and Andre Drummond added eight points and 17 rebounds for the Pistons. At 10-3, they are second behind Boston in the Eastern Conference.  Detroit travels to Milwaukee for their next game on Wednesday night.

College Football

Alabama remains #1 in the AP College Football Poll.  Miami jumps to #2 after beating Notre Dame.   Oklahoma, Clemson and Wisconsin round out the top five.  Ohio State is 8th.  Michigan is #19 and MSU is #22.

High School Football Playoffs

Harper Creek plays Muskegon at a neutral site on Saturday with a chance to go to the state finals.  We’ll have the game on the radio this Saturday at 12:35pm on 95.3 WBCK.

Mendon beat Climax-Scotts to advance to a state semi-final game.

College Basketball

WMU beat New Mexico State, 64-55 in men’s basketball Sunday.

MSU plays Duke on Tuesday at Chicago in the Champions Classic.  Hear the game at 6pm on 95.3 WBCK.

Women’s Basketball

#24 Michigan beat Liberty 74-50 on Sunday in the second round of the preseason WNIT.  Katelynn Flaherty scored 20 points for her 51st career 20-plus game.

KCC Basketball

KCC’s Men’s basketball team dropped their first game of the season over the weekend, losing at home to Carl Sandburg College.  The Bruins hit the road for their next three, starting Wednesday as they play at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn.

Red Wings

The Red Wings host the Calgary Flames on Wednesday at Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit, as the try to break a two game losing streak.  The Wings have five points over the last four games, including Saturday’s 2-1 shootout loss to Columbus.

Volleyball Districts

St. Philip advances to Tuesday's Class D state quarterfinal at Kalamazoo Central High School where it will face defending state champion and top-ranked Plymouth Christian Academy.

Bronson takes on Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central on Tuesday night.

Nascar

Matt Kenseth won the Can-Am 500 in Phoenix yesterday, beating out Chase Elliott on the final lap. That put Brad Keselowski in the fourth and final spot for the championship race next week.  Elliott needed to finish first in order to advance.

Kenseth was already out.  He doesn’t have a job lined up for next year and said he'll take a break at the start of the season, and may be planning to retire.

Wood Signed to KCC Cross Country Team

Lakeview senior Maggie Wood  has signed a National Letter of Intent to run cross-country at Kellogg Community College and will begin running for the Bruins next season.  Wood is the first student-athlete to sign on to run for the Bruins' new cross-country program, which will begin competing next fall.    Wood has earned All-Region, All-Conference and All-City honors while running with the Spartans.
