The Pistons beat the Hornets 102-90 Wednesday night in their first regular season game, and first ever at Little Caesar’s Arena.   Tobias Harris scored 17 of his 27 points in the first quarter.  Langston Galloway added 16 points off the bench for Detroit.  Reggie Jackson is getting healthy and had 13 points with eight assists.  The Pistons hit the road to play in Washington on Friday night, and New York on Saturday.

Red Wings

The Red Wings lost 6-3 in Toronto.  The Leafs scored four times in the first period to chase starting goalie Jimmy Howard from the game.  The Wings had goals from Henrik Zetterberg, Thomas Tatar.  Jonathan Ericsson’s second period goal made it 4-3, but the Wings were unable to score after that.  Detroit plays at home on Friday as they host the Washington Capitals.

Baseball Playoffs
The Cubs stayed alive with a 3-2 win over the Dodgers at Wrigley Field.  Javier Baez homered twice and Jake Arrieta pitched into the seventh inning to force a Game 5 in the National League Championship series. The series stays in Chicago for Game 5 on Thursday.  The Cubs will start Jose Quintana against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw in a rematch of Game 1 starters.

The Yankees are a win away from the World Series.  Masahiro Tanaka tossed three-hit ball over seven innings as New York beat Houston 5-0 to take a three-games-to-two lead in the American League Championship Series. Game 6 is Friday in Houston. The Astros will send Justin Verlander to the mound as they try to extend the series. Luis Severino will start for the Yankees.

Boys Soccer – Districts

Gull Lake beat Harper Creek 5-1.

Kalamazoo Christian beat BC Calhoun Christian 3-0.

Today, Marshall plays at Charlotte.

High School Football

There are a couple of area football games tonight as the Big 8 and Cascade conferences play their crossover games this week.

6-2 Union City is postseason bound.  Union City plays at Addison.

5-3 Homer can lock up a post-season spot with a win.  Homer is at Hanover-Horton

College Football

MSU has homecoming this Saturday as they welcome in Indiana.  Indiana is 3-3. Michigan State's run defense is ranked third in the Big Ten, and they’re allowing 65 fewer yards per game compared to last season.   Hear the game this Saturday at 2pm on 95.3 WBCK.

Michigan hits the road to take on second-ranked Penn State on Saturday night, 6:30pm on 104.9 the Edge.

Draymond Green Hurts Knee

Warriors forward Draymond Green underwent an MRI exam on his strained left knee and his status for an upcoming road trip is unclear. Green got hurt in Tuesday's season-opening 122-121 home loss to Houston.
