Sports: Red Wings drop 6th straight, 3-2 in Tampa
The Red Wings lost 3-2 at Tampa Thursday night in the second of a three-game road trip. Detroit has lost nine straight games against Tampa Bay. Frans Nielsen had two goals for the Wings. Nielsen opened the scoring during a short-handed 2-on-1 at 14:18 of the first. Jimmy Howard stopped 35 shots. Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov became the seventh set of teammates in NHL history to start the season with point streaks of at least 11 games. Detroit is winless in their last 6 games. They play the Panthers in Florida on Saturday night, and head home for a Halloween game against the Phoenix Coyotes.
College Basketball
The MSU Spartan basketball team beat Ferris State University 80-72 in an exhibition game at the Breslin Center. Sophomore guard Cassius Winston scored 26 points to lead three players in double figures. Freshman forward Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 14 points, and added eight rebounds and eight blocked shots. Ferris State took an early 12-2 lead and still led MSU by three at the half. Michigan State plays Georgia in a hurricane relief exhibition game at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Sunday.
Thursday Night Football
The Baltimore Ravens beat the Miami Dolphins 40-0 on Thursday Night. Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco threw a touchdown pass before being knocked from the game late in the second quarter with a concussion.
The Ravens’ defense forced Miami quarterback Matt Moore into throwing pair of interceptions that were returned for touchdowns.
College Football
Northern Illinois scored on three of its final four drives to rally past Eastern Michigan 30-27 in overtime Thursday night. Eastern Michigan's Paul Fricano missed three field goals, including a 42-yarder at the end of regulation at Husky Stadium.
Saturday…
MSU is at Northwestern….2pm on 95.3 WBCK. The Spartans are 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the Big 10, along with Penn State and Ohio State. Michigan State is No. 1 in the conference in total defense, but the Spartans are 12th in scoring and ninth in passing.
Michigan hosts Rutgers this Saturday…11am on 104-9 the Edge. Both teams are 2-2 in Big Ten play. The Wolverines have lost two of their last three games. Michigan is two games behind division leaders.
The WMU Broncos host CMU on Wednesday night at Waldo Stadium. It’ll be the first start for freshman quarterback Reece Goddard, who takes over for the injured Jon Wassink. Western is 3-1 in the MAC. CMU is 4-4 overall and 2-2 in Conference play.
No. 6 Ohio State will try to keep its playoff hopes alive by gaining revenge against No. 2 Penn State to highlight the ninth week of the college football season.
World Series
Game three is tonight in Houston. Lance McCullers will start for the Astros against Yu Darvish of the Dodgers.
MLB Coaching Changes
The Chicago Cubs have parted ways with pitching Coach Chris Bosio as part of a major shakeup to Joe Maddon's staff. The Cubs also hired Chili Davis as their hitting coach, replacing replaces John Mallee. Brian Butterfield will be the new third base coach for Chicago, replacing Gary Jones.
Joe Girardi is out as New York Yankees manager after 10 seasons.
Pistons
The Pistons head west for three games. They’ll play the Clippers on Saturday night, the Warriors on Sunday night and the Lakers on Tuesday night.
Lions
The Lions host the Steelers this Sunday night at 8:30pm at Ford Field. The Detroit Lions have signed tackle Dan Skipper to the active roster from the practice squad and released tackle Bryce Harris. The Lions also announced Thursday that they have signed tackle Storm Norton to the practice squad. Skipper is a 6-foot-9, 317-pound rookie who played collegiately at Arkansas. He spent the start of this season on the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad.

Coldwater's boys’ soccer team beat top-ranked Dexter 2-0 in Thursday's Division 2 regional semifinal at Marshall High School. The seventh-ranked Cardinals move on to Saturday's 6 p.m. regional championship against Stevensville Lakeshore.
Volleyball
The KCC Volleyball team plays in a Regional tournament next week Thursday against Glenn Oaks Community College.
