Tiger All-Stars Announced

Three Tigers are heading to Minnesota for the All-Star Game. Miguel Cabrera is starting at first base.  DH Victor Martinez and pitcher Max Scherzer will also be at the game a week from tonight.  Tigers' second baseman Ian Kinsler is the most notable player to get snubbed for this year’s mid-season classic.  The fans voted in Mariners star Robinson Cano, and the players selected Houston’s Jose Altuve.  Altuve got his 124th hit last night to set an Astros record for hits before the break.

Sterling v Sterling

The legal battle over the potential sale of the Los Angeles Clippers is once again on hold as attorneys try to track down Donald Sterling.  A federal judge Monday refused Sterling's wish that the hearing be moved to federal court.  The attorney for Shelly Sterling called Donald as his first witness when the trial began in Los Angeles Superior Court, but Donald wasn't in the courthouse.  The court was then recessed as attorneys and the judge tried to determine if Sterling had been served with a subpoena and if a bench warrant was necessary.

NFL Concussion Settlement

A federal judge has granted preliminary approval of a revised settlement agreement between the NFL and former players who sued the league over concussions.  The new deal, struck last month, provides unlimited funds to retired players who suffer from neurocognitive illnesses.  U.S. District Court Judge Anita Brody wrote in her decision Monday that her concerns over an earlier settlement were satisfied and that the revised deal is a significant improvement over the previous one.  In January, Brody rejected an agreement struck last August in which the NFL agreed to pay $765 million to provide medical benefits and injury compensation to retired players and their families.
