The Red Wings lose their final road game of the season 2-0 in Ottawa.  Jimmy Howard stopped 22 shots in his 400th career game. The Senators got goals from Erik Karlsson and Tom Pyatt for the win.  The Red Wings have 2 games left at Joe Louis Arena.   They host Montreal on Saturday night, and end the season and their stay at the Joe on Sunday at 5 against the New Jersey Devils.

Women’s Hockey World

In the women's hockey world championship at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth Michigan,  Finland will face Canada on Thursday afternoon and the United States takes on Germany in the other semifinal on Thursday night.  The Bronze and Gold games are Friday.

Pistons

The Pistons host the Raptors tonight. With four games left, Detroit is in 11th place, two and a half games off the pace to make the playoffs.  Three other teams are ahead of the Pistons in the race for the last playoff spot.

Westbrook Ties the Big O’s Record

Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook has tied Oscar Robertson’s record of 41 games in a season with a triple-double.

Tigers

The Tigers scored five runs in the second inning to win the first game of the 2017 season, 6-3 over the White Sox in Chicago.   Rookie Centerfielder JaCoby Jones hit a 3-run homer, the first of his career.  The 24 year old Jones is the first Tiger rookie to homer on Opening Day since 1980 when Kirk Gibson did it.  The Tigers also got home runs from Ian Kinsler and Nick Castellanos.  Justin Verlander started for Detroit, and gave up two runs in 6 1/3 innings and struck out 10. Shane Green got into trouble in the 9th, but Francisco Rodriguez shut down the Sox for to preserve the win.  Game two is scheduled for Wednesday, with Jordan Zimmerman on the mound for the Tigers, but the weather forecast is for a wet and bitterly cold day in Chicago.   Broadcast time is 1:45 on 95.3 WBCK.  The two teams are also scheduled to play in Chicago on Thursday afternoon.
